The first match of IPL 2019 started on March 23 with much fanfare. Title campaign of this year IPL
for CSK began perfectly with a win over RCB. CSK after some initial hiccups chased the small target
set by RCB without any sweat. Caption cool, M S Dhoni, won the toss and knowing the conditions
perfectly choose to bowl first. Harbhajan Singh broke the back bone of RCB by sending Kohli, M Ali
and de Villiers cheaply. Tahir did the rest of the damage. RCB was bundled out for paltry 70 runs
their joint second lowest score. Only Parthiv Patel managed a double-digit score of 26. Sparkling
fielding by Jadeja and Raina highlighted their value in the team. Dhoni behind the stumps and his
acumen field placements stood out in this match.
Match against DC. Tournament Match no 5. Dhoni not out once more:
CSK made a short work of Delhi Capitals target of 147/6, they scored 150/4 with 2 balls to spare.
Watson (44) Raina (30) were involved in a partnership of 52. K.Jadhav made 27 and Captain M S
Dhoni made 32 not out to see his side seal a victory against DC. Rabada 1/26 and A Pate 0/16 were
the pic of the bowlers. Earlier Capitals after s brisk start scored only 147/6. P Shaw (24), Dhawan (51)
and Pant (25) were the main scorers for DC. For CSK Chahar 1/20 and Jadeja 1/23 stood out in the
Match against RR. Tournament Match no 12. Catches win Matches:
Two out standing catches by Jadeja and Raina denied RR a perfect start to chase CSK’s score of 175.
They fail by eight runs, thanks to a fine final over by Bravo. Rajasthan Royals lost three quick wickets
before scoring 14 runs, managed 167 runs only. Tripathi and Smith studied the innings. Stocks 46 of
26 balls with a four and 3 sixers and Archer’s heroics brought close to CSK target. Earlier Tahir
bowled 4 tight overs for just 23 runs, fine bowling display under the circumstances. Requiring 12
runs in the last over bowled by Bravo, RR managed only 3 runs leaving CSK winning its straight third
match of the tournament. Earlier CSK started its innings also in one of its bad starts loosing 3 wickets
for 27 runs. Captain M S Dhoni joined in form Raina. The first ball he faced almost rolled on to the
stumps. However, they steadily pushed the score to 88 runs. When Raina was bowled by Unadkat,
Cool Dhoni too showed a glimpse of dissatisfaction. The last five overs fetched 76 runs Dhoni
contributing 46 runs including 3 sixers in the last over. Once again Dhoni led from the front to win a
match for his side.
