McLaren has unveiled a radical new “stealth” livery for its MCL36 Formula 1 car to be raced at the upcoming Singapore and Japanese Grands Prix. The dramatic new look continues the team’s trend of livery shake-ups through the 2022 season.
A Bold Black Makeover
The new design features a matte black base accentuated by grey, white and McLaren’s signature papaya orange. This dark color scheme gives the car a stealthy, batmobile-esque appearance befitting the “stealth” name attached to the livery by the team.
The overhaul ditches McLaren’s traditional papaya orange for a predominantly black look not seen on their F1 cars since the late 1990s. This striking change is sure to make the MCL36 stand out on track under the lights in Singapore and Japan.
Adding Flair Through Livery Innovation
McLaren has made a habit of introducing special liveries at certain races this season. A retro Gulf-branded blue and orange design debuted at Monaco, followed by a Canada-inspired red and white livery in Montreal.
This new stealth livery continues the team’s creative approach to adding unique flair through color and design. McLaren clearly recognizes the value in regularly changing up liveries to generate excitement among fans.
Celebrating Key Partners
According to McLaren, the new livery has been introduced to celebrate partnerships with technology companies Okta, CrowdStrike and Snowflake. Specific branding for these partners features on the engine cover and front wing.
The design is part of a new cybersecurity initiative called Shadow Umbrella launched by McLaren and its tech collaborators. The livery provides an eye-catching platform to promote this new project.
McLaren has found innovative ways to leverage livery modifications to spotlight and add value for key brand partners this season. The new stealth look does this while also giving fans something new and intriguing to look forward to.
More Livery Shake-Ups to Come?
With Singapore and Japan imminent, McLaren’s 2022 livery catalogue continues expanding. The team has proven its willingness to use bold new designs to mark special events this season.
Don’t be surprised if more livery changes are in store through the final flyaway races as McLaren keeps fans and partners engaged until the checkered flag in Abu Dhabi.
